About Us

Zorba Financial Services is an Australian company, owned and managed by Chartered Accountants specialising in the specific needs of the cash and hospitality sector; namely hotels, clubs and restaurants. Founded in 1999, the company has grown quickly to accommodate the rapid boom in the hotel and club industries, and now administers the back-office daily for clients totalling over $120m turnover per annum.

To date, all of the company's clients have been referred to Zorba by its current clients and by word of mouth, and no advertising has been necessary thusfar. This is due to the fact that Zorba, in its short history, has become an industry leader, providing a service unparalleled in the industry both in quality and professionalism.

The principals of the company have extensive experience in day-to-day financial control issues that arise in the ordinary course of business. It is this experience and understanding of the hospitality industry in general that sets Zorba aside from its competitors.

The company employs 14 staff members in a smart-casual open plan environment. All staff are fully trained in industry specific accounting and management software, and despite the fact that the principals are always in close proximity, each staff member takes full responsibility for the management of their clients, from source through to completion. Zorba Financial Services is a non-discriminatory employer, and endeavours to provide all staff with the vital tools and training to forge career paths for themselves.

David Greek
David is a principal and director of Zorba Financial Services. David is registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. He is also a Justice of the Peace.

David's history in Chartered Accounting seems to be genetic. Both his father and grandfather are respected Chartered Accountants in practice in South Africa. David's own Chartered experience saw him qualify in South Africa with a medium size accounting firm, Kessel Feinstein (Chartered Accountants, member firm of Grant Thornton International) where he gained extensive forensic audit and tax experience. His move to Australia in 1997 saw him take on a financial control role within a large retail chain where he worked for 2 years before establishing Zorba Financial Services. (David re-qualified in Australia in 1998).

David is considered by clients and other specialists to be a hospitality industry leader. His forte is his knowledge of the industry and contact network, which allows him to source problem solving solutions quickly.

Barry Sherman
Barry is a principal and director of Zorba Financial Services. Barry is registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Barry qualified in South Africa with Fisher Hoffman Sithole (member firm of PKF), before moving to Australia and re-qualifying with the ICAA. Barry joined Zorba in 2000.

Barry's background has seen him develop an extensive audit, IT and systems base of knowledge. He provides the structural platform at Zorba for quality control, both for clients and for staff. His ability to implement rigid systems in unstructured environments has enabled Zorba to grow into an industry-consulting firm and grow quicker than its competitors.

Having an extremely strong attention to detail, Barry has built up an extensive knowledge of industry specific laws and regulations, and his portfolio at Zorba includes all staff training and technical support.
